Deathblight RPG Alpha 3 released

With Alpha 3 being released on Patreon, Alpha 2.1 becomes available to the public.
Please start a new game to avoid bugs from old save games.

Keep in mind that you need the RPG Maker VX Ace RTP to run this game:
(the RTP includes graphics and other standard assets of RPG Maker that are required)

Now, what's new in Alpha 3?
Lovely Catheline is now a playable character!
We added the shopping district (which needs more NPCs which we will place in Alpha 3.1 and Alpha 4), as well as first half of the second dungeon.

Changelog Alpha3 - 26/08/2017:

- Added new city district: The shopping disctrict!
  -> Some buildings are already open to be viewed, although most don't have a function just yet
  -> Added a shop where you can buy a few useful items
- The first half of the second dungeon (Mission 02) has been added! Continue the story and visit the shopping district, to find out how to access it.
  Due to adding and changing many different things, it is highly recommended you start a new game instead of using an old save file!
  This will avoid most of the bugs you might encounter when using old save files.

- Added Catheline as a brand new character. She comes with her own unique set of skills to tear her enemies to shreds and drown them in shadows!
  Continue the story to find out how to add her to your party!

- Added new enemies to the second dungeon: The Failed Clones!
  Beware of these human created monsters! Even though they are considered as failed experiments,
  they still inherited the strengths of the ones they are based on, so don't take them lightly!

- Defeating enemies that grant XP now also rewards you with money

- Added a few new interactions in the hotel room

- Changed how the Evasion buff works: Evasion now lasts for 2 turns (including the one it is being applied) and gives +100% chance to dodge attacks.
  This change was done to make skills that award an evasion buff more useful and attractive to use,
  since before players tended to only spam cheap multi-hit attacks like Brawl and Ryuuseiha.

- Added new equipment, like rope and charms, that are useful in battle. You can find them or buy them at the shop!

Deathblight RPG progress report

It's been a while since the last blogpost, so I figured a short update might be a good idea.
(we regularly post progress reports on Patreon, usually several times a month)

Catheline Combat Graphics

We're currently working on finishing the last CG, originally we planned to have 5 CGs (2 CG scenes) with variations in the upcoming version.
But we decided to add another extra CG last minute (so it's 6 CGs with variations now).
Once it's done it needs to be implemented.
Then there's more testing to do, and if no bugs show up last minute, we'll be ready for the release.

In the meanwhile, enjoy Catheline up there!

Deathblight RPG - Catheline appears!

Here's a small status update on Deathblight RPG:

We've been working hard on implementing Catheline for the upcoming Alpha 3 version.
So far 9 out of 13 combat graphics are mostly done (some still need more facial expressions etc.).
And there's still CG scenes to do as well.
But progress is going smoothly.
As usual, we post most of our updates together with all the graphics over on Patreon.
(though I figured posting a small status update over here as well won't hurt)

Here's one of the 13 combat graphics of Catheline that will be in the game:

In the meantime, we also released a balancing and bugfixing patch for Alpha 2.
(basically called Alpha 2.1)
This 2.1 version will be released to the public once Alpha 3 hits Patreon.

It's hard to name a release date for Alpha 3 yet, but we're working hard to push it out as soon as possible.

On a side note, if you recall that blogpost about our roadmap for Deathblight RPG:
We decided to split each of the upcoming updates in half, so basically there will be more but smaller updates in the future.
(First half of a level, then the second half in a seperate update etc.)
That way we'll be able to push out updates faster, which is most likely better for everyone.

Deathblight RPG - public release

We just released Deathblight RPG second release on Patreon, and with that, here comes the first public release of Deathblight RPG.

It's only the first version which is public, so contrary to the second version it only contains the first half of the first level.
Deathblight RPG is a FREE game, it will not be sold once it's fully completed.
So everyone gets to play the second version sooner or later.

Here is a changelog of what's different in the second version:
Changelog Release02 - 29/03/2017:

- Added second half of first dungeon!
-> You can now finish the first mission and fight the bosses
-> All associated cutscenes, battles and CG-scenes have been implemented

- Added NPC-Girls in cells in first dungeon

- Added secret Ferania cutscene
-> If you want to find and trigger it, you have to be alone with Ferania in a certain location

- Changed intro slightly to allow players to freely move around and explore the hotel room when first entering
-> Can't leave the room, if you want to leave, talk to Minori to advance the intro
-> Important objects "sparkle" (Closet, beds)

- Added Mission Log/Guide/CG-Album at PC in hotel room
-> CGs and CG scenes viewable after finishing dungeon

- Changed dialogue timing in intro, for better flow (some lines now advance automatically)

- Added skip function to CG-scenes (game asks you if you want to watch the scene)
-> Only the capture scenes have it for now, not the overall "Game Over" scene

- Added cloth-changing and character-viewing mechanic to wardrobe in hotel room
-> Go to hotel room, speak to one of the two wardrobe/closets in the bedroom
-> "Change clothes" is for restoring clothes and removing the "Torn", "Naked" and "Slave" states
-> "Look into mirror" is for viewing the chosen characters current outfit/state (full-size picture)

- Added healing to beds in hotel bedroom
-> Speak to one of the upper double-beds to take a rest and heal HP and RST

- NPCs now react differently to the player (party leader, e.g. Ferania), based on their state (Torn, Nude, Slave)

- Inreased Minori's "Ryuuseiha" skill to 30 (was 20)

New CG scenes have been written by Sierra Lee.

The second release will be made public once the third release hits Patreon.
This means, Patrons are always 1 step ahead of the public releases.
Patrons get early access because they support the development of the game and make all of this possible in the first place.

Deathblight RPG status report + Character popularity vote #3

First things first:

Let's start with a quick status update on "Deathblight RPG - Operation Thunderfang".
Most likely, if no major bugs appear last minute, we should be able to release the second version of Deathblight RPG to Patreon this month, and this means the first version will be released to the public as well.

In case you're wondering, we're mostly posting status updates (usually several times a month) on Patreon and updating the blog only once in a while with major updates.
(Patreon is small updates all the time, as well as previews, access to new graphics and earlier builds of the game etc.)

What's left to do until we can release it:

- playtesting and bugfixing
- implementing the last few events into the game
- Boss game over CG scene
- 2 more capture graphics for the combat system
- 2 more hentai graphics for the combat
- all enemy graphics fleshed out in full quality
- boss enemy graphics
- secret extra
- pixel graphics for the NPCs
- rebalancing of the combat

(the crossed out things have already been taken care of at the moment this blogpost had been made public)

The 2 remaining graphics for the combat system will be finished in todays live stream.
We would be happy if you'd stopped by to watch!
Also, feel free to ask questions about Deathblight RPG, the webcomic, or Crescentia's artworks in general.

After that, we'll only need to finish the remaining CG scene and implement everything into the game as well as do testing and bugfixing.
It's still some work, but we're close to the next release.

Now for the third character popularity vote:

It's been a while since the last one, and we're always eager to see which of our characters are more liked than others. This has no influence on our current game projects, but it might help us to understand which of our characters are more popular than others, and this might help us improve some of our other characters.

As usual, the vote will be running for about 4 weeks, and you can vote on multiple characters at once.

Deathblight RPG update + summary of 2016

It's been a while since the last blogpost, yes.
We're doing (mostly) fine and we're working on the game as usual.
We also released the first version of Deathblight RPG on Patreon, but we didn't publicly announce it because of tax-reasons.
With that out of the way, we can finally announce it here on the blog.

But before we get to that, a quick shoutout to some awesome and very nice hentai game developers.
If you haven't heard of Ahrimans work "The Moral Sword of Asagi" yet, you should totally check it out!

So, lets get to Deathblight RPG then!

1. About Deathblight RPG's first release

As I said earlier, we released the first version on Patreon.
It will be made publicly available for everyone once we released the second version on Patreon.

As planned the content of the first release is:

- Ferania and Minori are playable.
- They have their basic graphics done.
- Minor demons are included as "grunts".
- The game is playable up to the first mid-boss. (and slightly further)
- Capture mechanic is in place.
- There is one game over CG scene when both heroines get captured.

Basically this is half of the first level.

We'll continue working on the game as soon as possible, namely, early January 2017.
(Currently we're mostly trying to enjoy a few days off)

Also, thank you very much to Ahriman for granting us permission to use scripts from his Asagi game!
And thanks to TNT90 for giving us permission to use some of the translation files and translation graphics.

2. Short summary of the year 2016

2016 was a much better year to us.
The only sad moment was when towards the end of 2016 someone dear to Crescentia passed away.
But other than that we had no troubles and no issues for once.
(so... even if 2016 was a "shitty year" to the world, it was good to us)

We started live streaming in June 2016 on Picarto.TV.
(follow us on twitter to know when we're streaming)

And we managed to strengthen bonds with Picarto.TV and even go on a convention together with them in december in germany.
They are really cool and nice guys, so I'd like to use this opportunity to say:
"Thank you very much Picarto.TV! We hope you're continuing to become even more awesome in 2017!"

Anyways, lets get back to talking about what good things happened to us during 2016.
We managed to work on Deathblight RPG and push out a first release this december.
While the webcomic progressed smoothly and we didn't missed a single page release.
Our Patreon has grown quite a bit, and the hard work definitelly pays off.
Also, 2016 had a flood of commissions and new regular customers (for commissions) coming in, so we've got waaaay more commission requests than we can possibly handle.
(for every commission done, 2-3 new commissions roll in)
So we would like to express our gratitude, while at the same time apologizing that we can't possibly handle that much, which results in commission requests getting turned down or delayed by weeks or even months.
(we don't charge money before we start work, still it feels bad to have people wait too long, sorry about that!)

At any rate, we would like to use this opportunity to thank all our patrons, supporters, commissioners and fans!
Thank you very very much, each and everyone of you had been a great support and great help to us during 2016 and previous years as well.
We wouldn't be standing here and doing what we're doing without every single one of you.
So we can't express our gratitude well enough!

Roadmap for Deathblight RPG

On the last live stream some of you were talking to me about the direction we want to go with Deathblight RPG (working title), and I figured it would be a good idea to share some kind of "roadmap" with everyone, so you know what to expect.

First of all, the poll results of which enemies get first into the game said that the Shapeshifting Creature (or more accurately "Failed Clones") as well as Giant Wasps will get into the game first, followed by Minor Demons and Female Plant Monsters.

After thinking about this for a while, I realized that I made this poll a bit too early, as it would be better to add "basic" enemies first, and then add these enemies to the game next.
Don't worry, we'll still include these enemies as fast as possible (not as first enemies, but directly after that!), and eventually (almost?) all enemies from that list make it into the game, sooner or later.
(and yes, the list might also expand, depending on suggestions from our supporters on Patreon)
Adding the Shapeshifters/Failed Clones not right away also makes sense, as we would like to include the bossmonster named "Failure" alongside them, and she would make a fine enemy once Catheline is being added to the game (which will happen at the same time when we implement the Failed Clones and Failure, so it's perfect).

That being said, lets get to the actual roadmap!

The first release of Deathblight RPG will be as soon as possible.
August is pretty much impossible at this point, as we've lost too many working hours to the summer heat (can't work efficiently with too much heat, and we don't have an AC unit).
The upcoming days will also be very hot, and this will limit our productivity.
But depending on the rest of august, we should be able to get at least some work done, and hopefully release it sometime in september.
We're not slacking off, but with some days only having about 50% productivity due to the summer heat, it's really tough to meet our own deadlines.
(of course we're still trying as hard as possible)

Now, what is planned for the individual releases?

First release content:

- Ferania and Minori will be playable.
- They will have their basic graphics done.

Second release content:

- The first level will be finished.
- Ferania and Minori will get a couple more graphics.
- There will be a bossfight and another game over CG scene.
(no escape mechanics implemented yet, but the capture and rescue mechanic is already in place since the first release)

The second release will happen shortly after the first release.

Third release content:

- Catheline will be added to the game.
- The second level will be about the Shapeshifters/Failed Clones, the Giant Wasps will also make an apperance here.
- Failed Clones and Giant Wasps will both get a CG scene of their own.
- Basically the second level will be the first "real" level, where you need to look for ways to advance in the level, and with Failure being a proper boss that will be (a bit) challenging to beat.
- "Failure" (the boss) will get a CG scene as well.
(which means, a total of 3 CG scenes for the second level)

The third release will take longer to make, as we'll release the whole second level at once.
Also implementing Catheline will be a lot of work.

Fourth release content:

- Corruption system will be added.
- Hentai adds corruption points, but they can be cured with potions.
(there will also be potions to raise corruption levels)
- We'll add jobs for the characters, so they can earn money and do lewd things outside of combat.
- There will be some new outfits for certain jobs, as well as CG scenes for jobs.
(or rather, CG scenes for the lewd stuff and hentai that comes along with the jobs)

Fifth release content:

- The third level will be added.
- Possibly a new playable character will be added as well.

I'm being vague here, as we're most likely going to let the Patrons vote on what's up next.
So I don't want to set things in stone, but the rough idea is there, and of course I'll be working it out as we move along.

These plans work out quite well, as we're episodically adding content to the game.

You can view it like this:

As we add another level/stage to the game, a new character might make her appearance and she becomes playable.
(she won't be playable in earlier levels, as she joins the party at "that" point in the story, and she's available from that point onwards)
Also, as the story progresses, new areas are being unlocked.
With new areas, there will be new jobs, new enemies, new characters, you name it.

This methode of adding content to the game makes it very easy to add stuff without having to worry about the previous levels.

And I guess that's the most important news for now.
